Four-line Christmas greeting dated 1916 on the front flyleaf. Decorative cloth boards, with picture of Native American astride his horse on the front cover. A particularly tight, clean and attractive copy, with none of the usual rubbing and wear to the cloth binding. The author describes the American Southwest, called the Painted Desert Region. He describes the Hopi, their villages, history, customs, religious life, and the snake dance; the Navaho and his history, at home, and as a blanket weaver; The Wallapais, their myths, the people of the Blue Water and their home; and the Havasupais, their legends, social and domestic life, religious dances and beliefs..
