SIGNED and dated 1980 by the publisher (Fred Rosenstock) on the half title page. Blue cloth boards, gilt spine titles, in lightly rubbed dust-jacket which has a few closed tears and a slightly faded spine. This was the first book-length story of a frontier army officer's wife since Fougera's With Custer's Cavalry, published in 1942; the first biographical treatment of a line infantry officer of the Indian-fighting army; the first revealed history of remote, little-known and dangerous Fort C F Smith, Montana Territory; and the first full account of activities at and based upon Fort Laramie, Wyoming, in the climactic years 1874-1876..
