His first book in fine condition First edition, first impression, in exceptional condition, of Keynes's first book, giving a defence of the Indian currency system against those who wished to move to a gold-based currency. Keynes served as a civil servant in the India Office from 1906 to 1908, and, while he did not like the work, he used it as the basis for a series of lectures at the London School of Economics in the spring of 1911, which he then worked into the present book. Keynes took his seat on the Royal Commission on Indian Finance and Currency the same year. Octavo. Original brown cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, covers ruled in blind. Housed in a green cloth solander box. Folding chart. Endpapers lightly toned as usual, else a fine copy, tight, bright, and clean. Fundaburk 9992; Mattioli 1822; Moggridge A1.1.
