Leather cover very worn, hinges cracking, bottom of spine freyed. Pages 83-252 have been torn out or removed, but 1-82 and 253-412 are clean and bright. Index villaris, or, An alphabetical table of all cities, market-towns, parishes, villages, private seats in England and Wales was first published by John Adams in 1680. 'The index was compiled from such sources as hearth tax returns, navigational works, and works to aid land travellers, notably those of John Ogilby. It was designed to be used in conjunction with his earlier map (inset) and refers some 24,000 places to a graticule using geographical co-ordinates'. Poor condition due to missing pages, otherwise very good. Title page and dedicatory page in good condition. ; Tables; tall folio ; 412 pages .
