Author's edition; 7 3/4 x 5; pp. [7], vi-vii, [2], 2-341, [5]; marbled paper over boards and 3/4 polished calf; spine with two inlaid squares of red and black morocco with title in gilt, five raised bands, and gilt decorations; marbled page edges; small chip to head of spine and a few small rubbed spots to boards; previous owner's signature to first blank leaf; overall in very good condition.First published in 1835, Andersen's autobiographical novel was considered to be the author's breakthrough. It followed his travels in Italy through the book's main character Antonio.
