Chicago: Richard S. Peale, 1876. Gilt vignette front cover. Rebacked with original spine laid-down. Some rippling of cloth on rear panel. Damp-stain to several preliminary pages and top of free-edge, does not carry into the text pages. Full-page illustrations of famous Iowans through the volume. 48 chapters with material on early history, local Indian tribes, explorationgovernment and courts, boundary difficulties, crime, various governors and their administrations, Iowa in the Civil War, schools. Last two chapters are sketches of the counties in Iowa and biographical sketches of leading men in Iowa past and present (1876). 732pp. Laid-in is a Peale's Railroad and Township map of Iowa, Chicago, 1876. It is fragile, but without paper loss, and has been repaired with archival tape, intact for the entire State, but probably lacking one fold to the east. It had been tipped-in to the book, but was removed by us for repair and is now simply laid-in.. First Edition.. Blue Cloth.. General Moderate Wear./No Jacket.. Thick Octavo.
