Gauntlet Press, 1996. Limited Numbered 45th Anniversary Edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. A handsome Limited Numbered 45th Anniversary Edition signed by Ray Bradbury, William F. Nolan (Introduction) and Ed Gorman (Afterword) and lettered "PC" of 600 Limited Edition copies. In fine unread condition with a fine complete dustjacket enclosed in the original custom clamshell box. Bound in black with a colorful complete dustjacket. The original custom clamshell box is in fine condition, lined in white felt with gold titling on the spine. This edition is one of the Gauntlet "Classics Revisited" series in which the authors themselves play a major role in the dustjacket design. In addition to illustrating the dustjacket, Bradbury help crafted the overall look of the book. This special edition also has rare photo of a young Ray Bradbury on back cover (seen below). 332 pp. Three stories from this book were the basis for the major motion picture "The Illustrated Man" (1969) starring Rod Steiger. A beautiful set long sold out from Gauntlet.
Synopsis
The Illustrated Man is a 1951 book of eighteen science fiction short stories by Ray Bradbury that explores the nature of mankind. While none of the stories have a plot or character connection with the next, a recurring theme is the conflict of the cold mechanics of technology and the psychology of people. The unrelated stories are tied together by the frame device of "the Illustrated Man", a vagrant with a tattooed body whom the unnamed narrator meets.
