Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1859. Cloth - Hard Cover. Good/No Dust Jacket. 12mo. 227 pages, plus pubishers ads dated July 1859. State "Author's Edition" on copyright page. Private library book plate on front paste down. Ink stamp of a masonic lodge is seen on the upper edge of the text block. Very slight discoloration on spine where a small library sticker was removed. There is a little wear at spine ends. Small and neatly penciled name on blank front free end leaf, with light smudge next to it. Volume remains tight and otherwise clean.
Synopsis
The longest and most ambitious work of his career, Idylls is a reflection of Tennyson's lifelong interest in Arthurian themes. His personification of Arthur, the highest ideal of manhood and leadership, is achieved through a delicacy of phrase and metrical effect that are unmatched.
