About This Item
Joseph Schull was born in the US, but grew up and lived in Canada for the rest of his life, where he served both in the Canadian army and later the navy. Following his military career he focussed his attention on his writing, through some of which he communicated his experiences in the military and in combat.
In "I, Jones, Soldier" he presents in verse form the experiences of soldiers awaiting the final command prior to entering battle juxtaposed with the reflective meditations of a solder on the courses in his life that have brought him to this particular moment. As the jacket description describes it, "The thoughts in the mind of every soldier, of all the men engulfed in this war, who fight its battles, die in its hateful ugliness, are here made vocal." A fascinating poetic insight into the mind of a soldier in the heat of battle presented by one who had been there.
This copy is in very good condition with a dust jacket in fair condition. There is some wear to the front edge of the dust jacket and particularly to the corner and the top and bottom near the spine. There is an indentation from a previous number in pencil and a small pencil note on the front flyleaf. Otherwise, there are no internal blemishes of note.
