UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.FINE/FINE-.No owner inscrptn and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright,crisp,clean,matt,colour pictorial artwork by Hugh Casson,repeat illustrated dw/dj panels with brown letters,similar lettering to illustrated spine/backstrip which is lightly sunned,rear panel repeat illustrated from front panel but without letters or text.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners – no major nicks, tears or splits present - a small closed tear (approx. 1.5cm) with a tiny triangular loss on top egde,at head of spine/backstrip.Top edges with very minimal,sporadic faint dust-fleck blemishes but still bright and not aged/toned,fore-edges bright and clean without any foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound – no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners – virtually pristine,unread,apart from my own collation.Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered, original, plain dark brown cloth boards with bright,crisp,blocked gilt lettering to spine/backstrip,brown+white striped headband and immaculate/clean plain white sets of endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,11-174pp [paginated] includes a January to December calendar diary with profuse,colour+b/w illustrations by Hugh Casson throughout; plus [unpaginated] b/w vignette illustrated half-title with colour frntis to its verso,title page,acknowledgements,colour vignette illustrated double-page contents list/table,a Preface with colour frntis to its verso and the last 2pp of Calendar Notes at rear. Visually the exterior appearance is acceptable for a book of it's age, and even internally,the book is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation.It is only the exterior faults described that prevent a higher grading.

A year (1980) in the life of the author,as the director of The Royal Academy of Arts. Every day,every page is illustrated with his snapshot sketches of courtyards,interiors and streets. Sir Hugh Maxwell Casson, CH., KCVO., PRA., RDI was a British architect.He was also active as an interior designer,as an artist,and as a writer and broadcaster on twentieth-century design.He was the director of architecture for the Festival of Britain on the South Bank in 1951.
