London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1954. [Sport] FIRST UK EDITION. Octavo (23 x 15cm), pp.[12]; 145; [3]. Illustrated by Lealand Gustavson. Printed in red and black throughout. Publisher's green cloth, silver titles to spine, pictorial dust-jacket priced at 12/6. Contents clean, no inscriptions, later presentation label to flyleaf, old tape strip to rear ep., jacket has some chips and tears, some toning to panels. Very good. An informal instruction manual from one of the masters of the game, cited by Ian Fleming in both his James Bond novel 'Diamonds Are Forever' and his sporting article 'Nightmare Among The Mighty' [a.k.a. 'Golfing Nightmare']. Fleming was a student of the game and an accomplished player; in his final year he was Captain Elect at the prestigious Open Links club, Royal St. George's, Kent. Gilbert, p.620, C65, F10.
