The third edition, 1840; Volume IV: First edition. 1834; Volume V: To which are prefixed Answers to some attacks in Robinson's Libre of Picton, and in The Quarterly Review, with counter-remarks to Mr. Dudley Montagu Perceval's remarks upon some passages in Colonel Napier's fourth volume . . . First edition, 1836. Volume VI: Prefixed to which are several justificatory pieces in reply to Colonel Gurwood, Mr. Alison, Sir Walter Scott, Lord Beresford, and The Quarterly Review. First edition, 1840. Totalling more than 3,700 pages, with 55 plates (some foxing and staining and with a small chip and a 2 cm. closed tear from fore-edge of one), appendices; demy 8vo; nineteenth century half green leather, lettered, decorated and ruled in gilt, marbled papered boards, the spines browned, boards lightly rubbed and edges worn; marbled edges; marbled endpapers, five ribbon markers (offset in margins, some detached); a few hinges starting very slightly, book label of David Levine, Sydney, on upper pastedowns, together with bookbinder's sticker, and in Volumes II-VI the earlier armorial bookplate of Anthony Potts, later ownership inscription to preliminary blank in Volume I, some foxing, browning and staining (more so in Volume I), occasional pencilled marginalia or scoring; Thomas & William Boone, London, 1835-1840. *Napier's eyewitness account of the Napoleonic conflict in Spain and the South of France was originally published between 1828 and 1840.
