Englewood Cliffs, NJ and New York: Prentice-Hall and Harry N. Abrams, Inc., 1968. [1960s-1970s] Red hardcover with silver lettering and pictorial dustjacket. Eight plates including four pages of full-color (map, comparative time chart, chronological tables, guide to pronunciation), index, 528 pages. There is no published date, but the book has gone through various printings/editions. Condition: Old price stamped on first free endpaper; signs of old insect infestations on corners of pages 524-528 and rear free endpaper; faint sprinkling of old humidity stains on edges; else overall Very Good condition. Text clear, readable; illustrations/photos clean, vivid. This tall, heavy book is the first one-volume survey of the dominant visual arts of Asia east of the Indus River, from about 2500 B.C. to A.D. 1850. For the first time this volume gives the reader the opportunity to put into proper perspective - and to appreciate - the tremendous artistic achievement of the Far East. It was written by Sherman E. Lee, director and curator of Oriental Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art. A remarkable, educational, insightful book by one of the world's experts on Far Eastern Art. Very collectible.
