'History of Boone County, Missouri' is a late 19th-century account of central Missouri and the history of the 24th state. This exceedingly rare volume covers the establishment of Columbia in 1821, the effect of the Civil War on Boone County, Missouri laws and government, and lists of names of important figures from the history of both Boone County and Missouri.
This work also includes extensive content on slavery and anti-slavery measures that where issued in Missouri, and how neighboring states, such as Kansas, influenced the legality of slavery in Missouri. Other topics include a survey of the geology and geography of Missouri, establishment of the University of Missouri, and impressive illustrations of iconic Missouri locations.
While no other examples of this book are found for sale, or any known auction records, similar 19th-century books on state counties are found from $2,000 to $7,500! An extremely valuable work.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
