About This Item

Cambridge: The University Press, 1965. First Edition. Octavo. 453(1)pp. The question of history and interpretation is difficult in all the gospels, especially hardest in the Fourth Gospel. This detailed study of St. John's Hospel is in two parts. In the first part the author examines the narrative material, the Passion Narrative, the Ministry, and the chapters on John the Baptist and the first disciples. In the second part he makes a detailed examination of the sayings. This critical and historical investigation of the most significant and original books completes this study. Bound in black cloth, spine gilt, previous owner's name, a very good copy in a very good, printed dust jacket with a few minor chips to spine ends.

This is the most detailed analysis of both the narrative and oral tradition underlying the gospel of John that I have read. The scholarship is incredibly detailed and balanced.
