Paris: Nicolas Buon, 1616. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to (small). Tome I of II only. Apparent first edition. Full contemporary calf. Recently professionally rebacked, calf repairs to joints and upper corner of front board, orig. spine laid down with orig. gilt title and stamped compartments. [16], 946, [26] pp. Engraved title, woodcut intials. Orig. leather cracked, worn to extremities, wear and indentations to front board. A short copy. Several printing errors to page numbers, but signatures and text are continuous. Jumps fro p. 806 to 809 and again from 946 [though printed as 646] to 950 (index), and but text appears continuous, remainder of index unpaged. Faint marginal damp staining sporadically throughout. Sporadic rust spotting and soiling. Browning and some minor sporadic chipping to edges of text block. A few instances of ink notation (foot of title page and last page of index). Armorial bookplate of Francisci Le Brete. Andre Du Chesne [1584-1640] was a French historiographer and geographer to the King of France. A prolific genius and contemporary of the members of the Mersenne circle, he is considered the father of modern history.
