This history first appeared in the magazine, The New Yorker. For author John Hersey, this volume was his 4th, notably following "A Bell for Adano" in 1944, an enduring wartime fiction. "Hiroshima" is factual, opening with the chapter, "A Noiseless Flash", in which the reader is reminded, "At exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the morning, on August 6, 1945, Japanese time at the moment when the atomic bomb flashed above Hiroshima". Hersey ascribed what 6 survivors were doing at that moment, and follows their narratives throughout this history. Included is a news clipping review, N.Y. Times, for a reprint, 4/Aug/85, by author John Toland, with archival news photos.
