Illustrator: Photographic. 800 g; VI, 314 pages, with double page end page maps, 24 pages of black-and-white photography in original hardcover binding with silver printing on the spine, and illustrated dust jacket. Slight rubbing at the top edge of the spine and the fold over corners. Otherwise in very good condition. On September 11, 1944 the British submarine Porpoise left Fremantle harbour intent on repeating the Jaywick rate of 1943 by blowing up 60 ships in Japanese occupied Singapore harbour 19 days later, the preliminary part of the operation successfully completed, the submarine commander farewelled the raiders at Pedjantan Island, promising to return to pick them up in 38 days time. A handful of Chinese and Malays and the conquering Japanese were the only people ever to see the 23 men again. According to the scandal official post-war record, the mission was another failure with all of the party Catholic killed.
