About This Item

Published by Simon & Schuster, London; 1987. 8vo. 704pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Fine

Bound in original grey boards with purple cloth spine and title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in very smart condition, with just a few small marks to the spine. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and free from damage, save some spotting to the extremities. There is a small ownership label affixed to the inside of the front board.

The book is housed in its original first issue dust jacket, which is in equally smart condition, with a photo of Hemingway to the front and rear. The jacket is vibrant and bright and has no signs of wear or marking to note, save the slightest hint of bumping to the spine ends and corners.

In all, this is a very smart and collectible example of this biography on one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. Hemingway lived life on an epic scale, and here, in one of the most searching and incisive biographies ever written, Kenneth Lynn pierces through the larger-than-life public image to reveal the complex personality and contradictory emotions of the real man.
