About This Item

New York: The Heritage Press, 1946. Reprint Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Michel Eyquem de Montaigne, Lord of Montaigne was one of the most significant philosophers of the French Renaissance, known for popularizing the essay as a literary genre. Volume 3 of the original 3-volume set (1 and 2 of which presented the actual essays). This handbook includes "Notes upon the text of the translation by George B. Ives and a series of comments upon the essays by Grace Norton to accompany Mr. Ives' translation." Bound in red and pink marbled paper-covered boards, backed in brown cloth with gilt spine titling. Volume is housed in grey paper-covered slipcase. Age toned page edges - otherwise a firm, clean, unmarked copy. Slipcase in very good condition overall. Volume lacks a "Sandglass" flyer and the original glassine wrap. Paginated as 1531-2077 (as volume 3). Full refund if not satisfied.
