About This Item
Hall-Marks on Gold and Silver Plate by William Chaffers.
Hardback, year unstated but published circa 1883-6, sixth edition (preface to this edition dated 1883 but catalogue at rear indicates other publications from March 1886, so 1886 seems most likely), revised and considerably augmented, illustrated with revised tables of the annual date letters employed in the Assay Offices of England, Scotland and Ireland, and a foldout facsimile of a copper-plate makers' marks at Goldsmith Hall, along with twelve plates of French hall marks.
Published by Reeves and Turner, London, 322 pages + viii with additional 24 page catalogue at rear listing other publications by Reeves and Turner. Contains old bookseller receipt, letter pasted on to fly leaf, which also contains bookseller stamp and inscription from 1887.
Red cloth boards and spine with gilt crest and lettering. Some marking and scuffing. Wear at edges and small tears at top and bottom of spine. Slightly bumped corners, a bit torn. Hinges intact and binding holding but strained in places. Page edges cut, browned and a bit marked. A little foxing to endpapers. Page surfaces generally clean, with no marginalia, underlining, etc. See pictures for further information.
