About This Item

Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1969. A history of the colony from the British acquisition to 1967, when this former governor's grandson came to report on it. As is clear from the title, the author is no fan and the book dwells more on the problem of the opium dens than he does of the energy and successes of the Chinese inhabitants. A rather more revealing insight into the condescending attitude of the British upper classes toward their colonial subjects than, perhaps, Pope-Hennessy had intended. 150 pp., 20 b&w prints and photos, 1 map. . First Edition. Hardbound. Very Good/Very Good. 23 x 16 cm..
