About This Item
Boston: David Godine, Publisher, 1975. First Edition . Hard Back. Near Fine/Good. 5 1/2" x 8. Washburn, Stan. 40 Un-numbered pages with illustrations on every page. Purple cloth with gold lettering and a small pictorial pastedown label. The sewn binding is a bit loose, especially the the last section of the three sections. I believe this may have been that way originally as the endpapers are tight and the book is very clean with faultless text pages. It has the appearance of having been opened only a few times. The dust jacket, while complete, has some wear and chipping at the edges. This is the tale of a small girl, Anonyma, who is driven to an untimely death by the machinations and intrigues so characteristic of German circuses. The story opens with a joyful parade, starring feetless Mr. Cickle, Drede the Rubberoid, and the Man Who Leaked From His Elbow. Anonyma is an innocent, and thus a victim. The tragic tale is told by Alexander Theroux, author of Three Wogs and illustrated by Stan Washburn, author and illustrator of George's Dragon. Alexander Theroux is a novelist, poet, and essayist. He is the brother of Paul Theroux who writes travel books and novels that are very different in context.
