"issued strictly as a Registered Edition"--these are the first two volumes in a set of 7; vol. 1 is "Causes," and preceding its t.p. are two facing pages highly ornamented in red, white and gold with U.S. flags, eagles and The Great Seal of the U.S., certifying that the copy is registered exclusively in the name of Dorothy Angel Cameron and signed by a registar with an embossed seal--the red imitation leather binding with gilt lettering and ornamentation is declared to be"an authorized facsimile of the official French copy of the Versailles Peace Treaty;" within are 404 p., clean and unmarked, with b&w reproduction of painting by Rudolf Henneberg, "The Lure of Pan-Germanism," with tissue guard, along with other fine b&w ill.; very fine paper, strong and only mildly age-toned, with deckle edges; binding firm but spine stripped of its panel. Vol. II treats of the early days of WWI, and has 434 p., clean and unmarked; the green boards with gold ornamentation are " the authorized facsimile of the original Belgian copy of the Versailles Peace Treaty;" the frontis. painting by Georges Weiss is entitled "The Marne The Forces of General Foch Drive the Germans Back Across the Marne at Epernay;" other ill. include "The Ill-Fated Churchill Expedition" and "The Serbian Retreat;" very fine paper, strong and only mildly age-toned with deckle edges; the boards are detached from firm text block but are present and in good condition; the spine panel has been stripped and is missing. Both volumes greatly deserve skillful repair.
