First published by Macmillan, 1892; this is a reprint by Joseph Knight Company dated November, 1892. Miniature format. Frontispiece: London, Thames Embankment. Massachusetts born author William Winter's (1836 -1917) states this is a companion volume to Shakespeare's England, also published in 1892. True to the title, the narratives relate both "the grays days of an American wanderer in the British islands, and to the gold of thought and fancy that can be found there" visits of historical scenes familiar to Shakespeare as well to Burns and Scott. Some essays were first published in the New York Tribune, New York Mirror, and Harper's Weekly. 334 pges, all photos w/tissue guards, in 24 chapters.
