When looking for a copy of this scarce Christmas mystery from 1938, half a dust jacket, reinforced with tape, AND with the whole book,is better than none at all.  Apologies for the situation, but that's the way this rare find came to me.  It's been down the road, but still collectible, at half the cost of what the other traders have offered for sale.
