Clark, 1875 Coloured map; 96 illustrations, head-pieces, borders and initial letters, 6 full-page; Illustrators include Charles Altamont Doyle; 1 initial letter printed in red, title-page printed in gilt, red and black; A frontispiece is listed but is not present, though there is also no sign of its removal; Leather-Bound Hardback: half green calf decorated in gilt and blind on green boards, red leather lettering-piece, quarto; Head of spine frayed, corners rubbed, previous owner's name to front free end-paper, 4 leaves of text slightly torn (no loss), otherwise text and illustrations clean, overall a near fine copy.

Synopsis

John Pearson is the editor of 'Through the Green', the magazine of the British Golf Collectors Society. The BGCS was founded in 1987 with the aim of promoting interest in the history of golf, as well as collecting items associated with its history. He is co-author and editor of three golf club histories - Cumbria Union, Writing a Golf Club History and Cecil Keitch, Champion Golfer - and writes on golf heritage for magazines in the USA, Europe and Australia. He is also Secretary to the trustees of the Women Golfers' Museum.
