Softcover, disbound & removed in the distant past from a larger collection of bound periodicals, with remnants of the spine. iv, 48 & [2] pages, illustrated with 2 full-page plates and 2 full-page illustrations, including a bright polychrome lithographic frontispiece of a peacock and other birds by Pinkerton, Wagner & McGuigan of Philadelphia. There is light dampstaining along the front and bottom edges of the pages. Good. The first appearance of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Drowne's Wooden Image", which was later published in his collection of stories "Mosses From an Old Manse". In an August 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell, Edgar Allan Poe writes: "Do you ever see Mr. Hawthorne? He is a man of rare genius.
