Victor Gollancz, London, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/good. author's note. Blue coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back. Photographic dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and purple and black coloured titles to the back strip. The author was a renowned travel writer of the 50s and 60s. This, her informal autobiography, tells of her childhood in India (with a large and eccentric household); a father who had a job in the Indian civil service, and, consequently the family moving constantly; schooling in India, Britain and America; meeting and marrying her husband etc.; and, above all the love of travel. Softening of the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners. Rubbing of the lower book edges with uniform light age toning of the text block edges and pages. A gift card has been taped to the front paste-down, still in situ, and has ghosted to the free front end page. Offset tanning to the end pages and original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip corners. Some small tears to the top edge of the front panel and creasing of the lower edge. Rubbing of the dustwrapper panels with some handling marks to the rear panel and fading of the back strip.
