In late 1803 convict William Buckley fled the embryonic settlement in the Port Philip Bay area to take his chances in the wilderness. He was found by the local Wadawurrung tribe who took him in and he lived with them for 32 years as a tribesman. In 1835 John Bateman, a bounty hunter from Van Diemen's Land. arrived in the area to control the perfect pasturland around the Bay. 306 pages with some black and white illustrations and a map.
