About This Item
Synopsis
George Washington Gomez: A Mexicotexan Novel Américo Paredes is well known as a folklorist, but his first novel was written in the 1930's. It was published posthumously, and was never edited. This is a coming of age tale for a young Chicano named George Washington Gómez by his parents, in hopes of what he could achieve in America. Set on the Texas-Mexico border, George lives in the shadow of guerrilla warfare, banditry, land grabs, abuses by the Texas Rangers and the overpowering pressures to disappear into the American melting pot.
