First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author; 8vo; a touch of offsetting to endpapers, else unmarked internally; publisher's dark green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, with the unclipped pictorial dustjacket, light toning and soiling, minor edge-wear, small piece of tape to rear panel, else very good.
Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in blue ink to the front free endpaper: 'To John La Rose / with gratitude and admiration / Michael Anthony.'
The recipient John La Rose was a political and cultural activist, poet, writer, publisher, founder of New Beacon Books in 1966, the first specialist Caribbean publishing company in Britain, and subsequently Chairman of the George Padmore Institute.
