About This Item

Philadelphia: Carey, Lea & Blanchard, 1834. Hardcover. Very Good. First American edition (published the previous year in England). Two volumes. Quarter muslin and blue paper over boards. Uniform labels of a free library on the front pastedown of each volume, lacking the front fly of Volume II, printed paper spine labels almost completely eroded, still a sound and attractive, very good copy. Little known novel, made more interesting by the publisher's ads for the first American of *Frankenstein; or the Modern Prometheus* which the publisher had issued the previous year, as well as for several American first editions of the works of Jane Austen.
