London: E.W. Allen and Foulsham & Co, 1887. Third Edition. Hardcover. Good. Original brown boards stamped with black illustration. Gilt title somewhat faded. Third edition. No date on copyright page. The author's preface is dated 1887. Book has wear along edges and light damage at top of spine. Pages are clean and binding is solid though starting. Illustrated with photos. The author was known as the manager of London's Alofas Safe Herbal Remedies, promising relief from "acute neuralgia, lumbago, sciatica, rheumatism, gout, etc.". Bookplate on front pastedown page of Dr. Homer Wakefield, a specialist in alternative medicine and a pioneer in the therapeutic use of hypnosis. Laid in is a detached bookplate "Gift in loving memory of William Erastus Williams 1858-1945." Small 8vo. 162 pp. Scarce instructional treatise.
