About This Item
Paris: Musée des Arts décoratifs and Flammarion, 2000. 334 (2) pages. Small folio. In the original pictorial dust jacket. First printing of the first English-language edition, which is a revised and updated version of the exhibition catalogue for Décors de l'imaginaire: Papiers peints panoramiques, 1790-1865 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, September 18, 1990 through January 20, 1991. The book is profusely illustrated in both color and black & white. As the publisher states on the dust jacket, "Among the subjects depicted are well-known Parisian monuments and famous sites together with mythological or romantic themes, inspired by the paintings and engravings most fashionable at the time. Manufacturers such as Zuber, Dufour, and Delicourt exported these wallpapers to the United States and all over Europe, where they decorated a wide variety of buildings," from modest houses to princely estates. The author, Odile Nouvel-Kammerer, was the curator of the 18th century collections at the Musée des Arts décoratifs. Both book and dust jacket are in virtually as-new condition. . First English Language Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.
