About This Item
Berlin: Alfred Weiner / Illustrierter Film-Kurier, 1929. First Edition. Original program for Lang's final silent film, starring Klaus Pohl, Willy Fritsch, and Gerda Maurus. Based on the novel by Lang's wife, Thea Von Harbou, Frau Im Mond is considered one of the first serious science fiction films. The groundbreaking film presented the basics of rocket travel to a mass-audience for the first time, and marks the first occurrence of the "countdown to zero" prior to a rocket launch. The program is richly illustrated with photographic stills from the film, with a cast of characters and synopsis printed throughout. OCLC notes a single separate holding for the program at the Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar, though longer runs of Illustrierter Film-Kurier are more broadly held. Quarto (30cm); original pictorial wrappers, saddle-stitched; [8]pp; illus; text is in German. Light wear along the spine-fold, some oxidation to staples, with a few faint (partial) horizontal creases at center; contents are fresh; Very Good+ or better.
