Fordham University Press, 1940. Hardcover. Very Good Plus. This study is based on the more than 200,000 items in the Bayard papers in the Library Of Congress. Bayard succeeded his father in the United States Senate in 1869 and served until1885. he was nominated for the Presidency in the Democratic conventions of 1876, 1880, and 1884. Grover Cleveland made him Secretary Of State in 1885 and he served until 1889. In 1889 Cleveland declined to offer him a second term at State and made him Ambassodor to London. This book focuses on the Secretary Of State and London years. Some uncut pages. Foxing and chips to dust jacket. An excellent copy of this scarce work.
