Paris: Julliard, 1960. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good Condition. An advance copy (with s.p. on the rear cover) of the limited edition (though not on Marais paper) with plain covers and an interview and portrait of Wright. Lacking a glassine wrapper, but likely to have never had one. Light wear and age toning, inscribed by Wright to Françoise Sagan and additionally signed by the translator Helen Bokanowski. Slight browning to covers, but an attractive copy and a terrific association of two giants of 20th century literature. With an announcement for the book, a bit worn, laid in. Wright lived in Paris from 1946 until his death in late 1960 - he became in French citizen in 1947.

Published as The Long Dream in 1958, it is often viewed as the final book in the Native Son, Black Boy sequence. It traces the life of Fishbelly, the son of a Mississippi mortician in the Jim Crow South. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Fiction; Signed by Author. Inventory No: 042255.

Description:
Paris: Julliard, 1960. First French Edition. Paperback. Very good. A French translation of Wright's last novel, a grim story of a Black mortician trying to navigate life in Jim Crow Mississippi. With an interview with Wright by Maurice Nadeau and a portrait of him by Monique Métrot. Issued as Les lettres nouvelles no. 3. 459 pages. First edition in French. The original yellow printed wrappers (paper covers) are a bit foxed, but are generally very good, lacking the original publisher's glassine. This copy is inscribed by the author to a French scholar of Islam, "A-Louis Massignon cordial homage Richard Wright." Wright died at the end of 1960, while living in France. Signed copies of this book, therefore, are somewhat uncommon.
