Illustrated with black and white frontispiece and eleven further plates. A near fine copy that shows well. The novel tells the story of a journey to the moon undertaken by the two protagonists, a businessman narrator, Mr. Bedford, and an eccentric scientist, Mr. Cavor. Bedford and Cavor discover that the moon is inhabited by a sophisticated extraterrestrial civilization of insect-like creatures they call Selenites. Light wear at top and bottom of spine. Overall, tight clean copy of a rare book.. 1st Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good+/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Synopsis

The First Men in the Moon is a 1901 scientific romance novel by the British author H. G. Wells. The novel tells the story of a journey to the moon undertaken by the two protagonists, the impoverished businessman Mr Bedford and the brilliant but eccentric scientist Dr. Cavor. On arrival, Bedford and Cavor find the moon inhabited by an extraterrestrial civilization the two refer to as "Selenites".
