Complaining about his small stature and certain he will finally be happy when he is as tall as the largest old firs in the forest, the Fir-Tree is cut down and taken to be a Christmas tree. He then misses his forest friends and wonders if he will always be decorated. When he is later tossed in a garret he misses the holiday festivities, and when he is taken out to the brush pile he misses the mice who befriended him in the garret.
