[Paris]: Louis Broder, 1965. Small quarto (24.5 x 20 cm). Loose signatures laid into printed wrappers. Illustrated with fourteen original etchings, lithographs, etc. Very fine, in vellum backed chemise and slipcase. First collective edition of these texts written by Crevel between 1923 and 1934. The original illustrative material is distinguished, and consists of a color woodcut by Arp; three drypoints (two by Hans Bellmer and one in color by Valentine Hugo); a color lithograph by Wols; two black & white etchings (one by Giacometti and one by Oscar Dominguez); and seven color etchings (by Camille Bryen, Max Ernst, S.W. Hayter, Wilfredo Lam, Man Ray, André Masson and Joan Miró). In addition to 150 numbered copies printed on Rives, this is one of an unknown number of copies designated as an "Exemplaire d'Editeur." All copies were signed by the artists on a separate bifolium, with the exceptions of Wols and Dominguez, whose contributions were posthumous. MONOD 3321.

Description:
This book is in very good condition. There is minor wear on the dust cover and little to no wear at all on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. The pages are white, crisp and free of any markings. "Perhaps because it seems so close in time to our own experience, many art lovers feel a special kinship with the turn of the century. We speak of fin-de siecle artists almost as if we know them, and a large body of scholarly work exists covering nearly every conceivable aspect of the late nineteenth-century philosophy, sociology, and art. Given that, it is a rare and remarkable opportunity when one finds something new and unknown about the late 1800's, a privilege we at the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibition Service are pleased to share with everyone who reads this book and visits the exhibition Art Nouveau Bing...." - Foreword from Art Nouveau Bing: Paris Style 1900

Description:
New Haven and New York: Yale University Press and the Jewish Museum, 2004. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Fine/Fine. Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) is one of the greatest - and most misunderstood - artists of the twentieth century. His incisive portraits, erotically charged nudes, beautiful drawings, and primitivistic sculpture have been admired for decades. Modigliani's work, however, has typically been examined in the limited context of his so-called bohemian, anti-intellectual lifestyle. This groundbreaking book revises this approach toward Modigliani's art, presenting a convincing revisionist examination of the unique historical, social, religious, and cultural significance of his oeuvre.  No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; Still Gift Quality. Dust Jacket with price is in a new clear protective Mylar sleeve..
