About This Item

Lubec, Maine: Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission, 1982. Soft cover. Near Fine. A programme of events to celebrate the centenary of Franklin D Roosevelt, held at Campobello, New Brunswick, which was the President's summer retreat. Bound in white card wrappers blind stamped with an attractive sailing ship design flanked by a star and a maple leaf signifying the close links between Canada and the USA. The programme is nicely illustrated with photos from the Roosevelt family album. Near fine, a couple of scuff marks to the upper cover. Laid in: a Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission envelope with 100th birthday observance postage stamps for Franklin D Roosevelt postmarked Campobello July 4 1982, and for Eleanor Roosevelt postmarked Campobello October 13 1984. These items come from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.. In 1969 he married his third wife who was a Swedish princess and with whom he shared the final years of his life in France. Adams' move to France explains the presence of his books in the United Kingdom. Near Fine 1982
