London: Constable, 1940. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. SIGNED & INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR. Publisher's green cloth case binding, the titling blocked in red over gilt to the spine. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by the Author to the half-title: "For Amy Johnston/ who has worked so hard/ for Fanny/ wit the thanks of/ Michael Sadleir/ May 1940". A lovely copy. Laid in is a 7-line hand-written letter from the Author on his London letterhead to the recipient: "Please buy something you want with the Enclosed which brings all good wishes and [indecipherable] thanks for the hard and admirable work you been - and still are - doing". Scarce with these attributes. Photographs/scans available upon request.
