No. 113 of 250 numbered copies of the first edition of this work, signed by the author to the front free end paper and specially bound in a quarter cloth binding with marbled boards. Anita Brookner's subtle and sombre novel of a prosperous German Jewish family living in England, following the lives of the children of the family's exacting matriarch, as they rebel, settle down, and mature between the two World Wars. A wonderful signed Limited Edition by the award-winning novelist Anita Brookner (1928-2016), best known for her novel preceding this work, Hotel du Lac. In a quarter cloth binding. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
