About This Item

New York: The Viking Press, 1975. First Edition. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. A late Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin mystery in which Wolfe, the beer-loving, orchid-growing genius and private detective, becomes so enraged over a murder commited in his own New York brownstone that he is willing to work without a client or a fee and even willing to leave home and spend time in jail. First Printing of the First Edition. Quarter-black cloth over dark-blue paper-covered boards with silver lettering on spine. Boards show a narrow line of sun fading along top edge; top edge of text has single, tiny, very light stain near spine. O/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The black dustjacket shows just a touch of rubbing and edge wear, no tears, no chipping or creasing, not price-clipped. Collectable. A great mystery from one of the Mystery Grand Masters.
