Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company / The Riverside Press, 1899. Hardcover. Very Good. Early printing, originally published in 1873. Two volume set. Illustrated by Eric Pape. Decorative green cloth stamped in gilt and green, top edge gilt. Small stain on page foredges, owner's name on front fly, rear hinge cracked causing the spine to be cocked, a very good only set lacking the dustwrappers if issued. This is the author's first novel and it was based on Cortez's conquest of Mexico.
