[1st edition, 1st printing] ; 586 p. 19 cm. ; LC: PS3134 ; OCLC: 1344541 ; "Note by the author" dated: Boston, Mass., August 8, 1873 ; "The firm of James R. Osgood & Co. originally published "The Fair God," and held copyright on it. Within eighteen years its issue had reached 94,000 copies, and in the hands of Houghton, Mifflin & Co., who had meanwhile succeeded to the publication, its sale was an assured continuance. That firm renewed the electrotype plates of the book several times, so " The Fair God " was kept in fair shape for its later day readers"--American Printer and Lithographer, October 1893 ; first signature missing ; ex-lib ; previous owner date of 1874 on front endpaper ; ownership stamp ; repair to back hinge ; POOR.
