Questa pregiata edizione è illustrata da: 2 antiporte con il titolo "Fables par M. Dorat" (sulla seconda: Fables de M. Dorat, II Volume) disegnate da Marillier ed inc. in rame da Ghendt; 1 grande composizione di Marillier, incisa da Delaunay (inserita in ciascun volume); un ritratto di Dorat in medaglione inciso da Dupin; fleuron al primo frontespizio con il busto di La Fontaine; 99 magnifiche vignette e 99 finali di Marillier, incise da Arrivet, Baquoy, Delaunay, Duflos, de Ghendt, Le Gouaz, Lebeau, Louis Legrand, e altri. Parecchie vignette del II volume portano la data 1775. "Prima edizione" sur grand papier blanc de Hollande di uno dei più bei libri illustrati del Settecento francese. Cfr. Ilustrado con 99 viñetas y 99 viñetas de final del capitulo grabadas por Arrivet, Baquoy, Delaunay, Duflos, de Ghendt, Le Gouaz, Lebeau, Leveau, Lignée, de Longueil, Louis Legrand, Le Roy, Masquelier , Née, Ponce, Madame Ponce y Simonet. Encuadernación en plena piel de la época con filetes dorados en los planos, nervios y hierros dorados en el lomo, algo deteriorado. Cortes dorados. Interior muy buen estado. Marillier representa lo mejor de todo el estilo de ilustración del período de Luis XVI. Sus viñetas y piezas ornamentales son siempre finas y elegantes sin llegar a ser demasiado amaneradas. Las ilustraciones que acompañan a las "Fábulas" de Dorat se consideran la obra más hermosa del artista.

A La Haye, Et se trouve à Paris: Chez Delalain, 1773. First Edition, first issue, of Dorat's Fables nouvelles. Gordon N. Ray described this edition as an "eighteenth-century masterpiece of miniature illustration." Cohen-De Ricci claimed that this work remains the "chef-d'oeuvre de Marillier, sous le rapport de la finesse de l'exécution et de l'esprit qui règne dans tous les jolis sujets qui l'ornent." Pierre-Clément Marillier (1740-1808) was praised by Dorat for these delightful interpretations of the author's verse.
