Condition: Very good, with light shelfwear to covers. Signed and inscribed by the illustrator, Esdaile Hudson (b.1937) to the previous owner on the title page. Dustjacket condition: Very good, with light shelfwear. Not price-clipped. 208pp. Many colour and b/w illustrations. Richard Jefferies died in 1887, aged 38. He left behind some of the finest descriptions of the English landscape, its wildlife and its people. He was an acute observer of the natural scene and had a keen interest in many of the urgent social, political and industrial preoccupations of late Victorian England. In this book, the editor has selected some of Jefferies' most significant essays and extracts from some of his books, and provided a critical introduction and bibliography. The illustrations by Esdaile Hudson capture the landscapes, animals and people which fill the pages of Jefferies' works..
