About This Item

Seattle: Madrona Publisher's, Inc, 1978. Stiff Wrappers. Very Good. Ray Collins. Oblong 12mo. Unpaginated. Introduction by Tom Robbins. Illustrated throughout with Collins' comic strip in black-and-white. Bound in stiff color-illustrated wraps. Slight rubbing and sunning to cover. This copy inscribed on the half-title to artist Guy Anderson: "To Guy - Thank you for the art education ... [signed] Ray Collins". Anderson included a 1977 University of Washington Daily newspaper clipping of a 1977 profile of Collins. It's now laid in, within an clear archival sleeve. Collins got his professional start illustrating the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He then began contributing to Helix, Seattle's underground newspaper, including covers, and comic strips featuring characters Cecil C. Addle and Dipstick. Later his daily comic strip appeared in the Op Ed pages of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer under the title The Adventures of Cecil C. Addle and Dipstick. The connection between Collins' lighthearted humor and Guy Anderson's ineffable Northwest mysticism connotes the breadth of the region's artistic temperaments.
